Getting to Know the Wedding Party! Lia's Attendants!

For the wedding Elsworth and I each selected two people to stand up in our wedding in support of us.  I have so many wonderful people in my life that choosing just two was no easy task.  Since you will be looking at the beautiful faces of my two attendants during the wedding, I thought I'd introduce you to them!

Mercy!  There are no words that can prepare you for the awesomeness that is Mercy!  I met Mercy through a mutual friend, JV (incidentally, JV is the same mutual friend who introduced me to Elsworth!) while we were in college, me at Iowa and she at Coe.  After Mercy graduated from Coe she moved to Iowa City and we became instant friends.  Like instant best friends who laugh so hard they choke on the candy they are always eating.  We spent one carefree summer in Iowa City eating New Pioneer Coop sandwiches, watching Troop Beverly Hills nearly every day, playing Upwords, writing zines for Le Tigre, and delivering the zines to Le Tigre.  It was pretty great.  Mercy then moved to Fargo and I moved to Madison but then Mercy moved to Madison and we were roommates for several years.  In those several years we hosted multiple amazing parties, include a Halloween party where I dressed up like Richard Simmons and Mercy dressed up like Tammy Faye Baker.  Don't worry--here's a picture!

Another great party we hosted was called "Your Best Birthday Ever" and we recreated favorite birthday memories from childhood.  This is when we decided to install a ball pit in our apartment.  Unfortunately, there are not many pictures from the ball pit days.  But if I can get my hands on any I will definitely share them on here.  It was at the "Your Best Birthday Ever" party that I met Elsworth for the first time.  I remember the moment he walked through the door!  I could go on and on about how great Mercy is.  And I will.  But it will be in person and it will be at the wedding.  And you will see for your own eyes!  Here is a more recent picture of me and Mercy coloring Easter Eggs at my parents' house and one of us this summer on our way to the Wisconsin Dells!  We have fun!

Katie!  My friendship with Katie is one that was literally YEARS in the making.  We had a class together while we were in college.  A horrible horrible class.  Well, it was actually not horrible.  The instructor was horrible but everyone in the class was very awesome (there will be two other people at the wedding who were in the class with us)!  So, I knew Katie in college but not really beyond the class and randomly seeing each other downtown.  When I moved to DC in 2009, a facebook friend (someone I barely knew in real life) commented that she had a friend in the DC area and would I like her to pass my e-mail along to this person.  Because I'm typically up for a social connection, I said sure.  A few days later I got an e-mail from Katie saying she was the person my facebook friend had mentioned and that we had a class together in college.  I totally remembered her and we got together a few days later.  I loved getting to know Katie again and it was so nice to have a friend to show me fun places in DC (and delicious restaurants in DC)--especially a friend from Iowa because everyone knows that people from Iowa are the best people ever!  Katie is seriously the nicest person in the world.  She never says anything bad about anyone which is very admirable!  Here is a picture of me and Katie at DC Pride in 2011!

And here's another picture of us this winter at the airport.  Something important to know about Katie is that she has a horse named Jay!  Pretty cool!  And she is a WONDERFUL vegan baker!  Seriously--I'm not sure why she hasn't quite her day job and opened a vegan bakery.  Everything she bakes is amazing!  She is so much fun and loves to dance--so watch out for her on the dance floor of the wedding.  She will be bringing it!

So, those are my awesome friends who will you will see in 23 days!  Look for Elsworth's installment of Getting to Know the Wedding Party soon!  Probably his will have less exclamation points.
